Testing Exponentiality Based on Renyi Entropy of Transformed Data

In this paper, we introduce new tests for exponentiality based on estimators of Renyi entropy of a continuous random variable. We first consider two transformations of the observations which turn the test of exponentiality into one of uniformity and use a corresponding test based on Renyi entropy. Critical values of the test statistics are computed by Monte Carlo simulations. Then, we compare p...

On Statistical Inference Based on Record Values

We develop methodology for conducting inference based on record values and record times derived from a sequence of independent and identically distributed random variables. The advantage of using information about record times as well as record values is stressed. This point is a subtle one, since if the sampling distribution F is continuous then there is no information at all about F in the re...

Statistical Inference Based on Upper Record Values

The goal of this thesis is to examine methods of statistical inference based on upper record values. This includes estimation of parameters based on samples of record values and prediction of future record values. We first define and discuss record times and record values and their distributions. Then we propose an efficient algorithm to generate random samples of record values. The algorithm, ...

Inference on Pr(X > Y ) Based on Record Values From the Power Hazard Rate Distribution

In this article, we consider the problem of estimating the stress-strength reliability $Pr (X > Y)$ based on upper record values when $X$ and $Y$ are two independent but not identically distributed random variables from the power hazard rate distribution with common scale parameter $k$. When the parameter $k$ is known, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), the approximate Bayes estimator and ...

On distribution-free goodness-of-fit testing of exponentiality

Local, or better, contiguous alternatives are the closest alternatives against which it is still possible to have some power. With this in mind we would like to think of goodness-of-fit tests as those which have some power against all, or a huge majority, of local alternatives. Tests of that kind are often based on nonlinear functionals, with a complicated asymptotic null distribution. Therefor...

Confidence interval for the two-parameter exponentiated Gumbel distribution based on record values

In this paper, we study the estimation problems for the two-parameter exponentiated Gumbel distribution based on lower record values. An exact confidence interval and an exact joint confidence region for the parameters are constructed. A simulation study is conducted to study the performance of the proposed confidence interval and region. Finally, a numerical example with real data set is gi...
